A fascination with illustration has ignited my interest in it of late. With a growing collection of picture books that I adore I recently added to it with a wordless picture book. The joy of flicking through this book, studying the beautifully crafted illustrations by Lee Jihyeon and trying to decipher the story is mesmerizing. And the way I interpret the story is totally unique to me as others may see something else. This is what makes the picture book so special, it is one persons interpretation of what the Artist Illustrator is trying to convey.
Inspired by this I have been spending my art practice time drawing and really enjoying the experience. When I studied art foundation a graphite pencil and a large sheet of paper was the only art materials recommended in the drawing class. I had forgotten how versatile it is. The humble pencil offers the Artist the opportunity to create whatever they want.
Can you recall a time when a picture book has captivated you? Illustration can convey our emotions and stories. For those of us who prefer pictures to words it is a powerful tool not to be underestimated, the possibilities are endless.
